The cancelling of distribution of any funds to the cantons and the Confederation in the aftermath of the SNB loss of 2022 reflects the SNB’s decision not to use its provisions for foreign investments to absorb losses. Thise provisions are intended to be used in a situation such as the current. We conclude that the SNB is able, but unwilling to distribute profits.
